OK, prior to I go into the Pros and Cons of this system, let me 1st say this... As a Network technician, I'm a bit of a stranger to Acer items. I've seen them prior to, but I've by no means employed them. In an business dominated by Dells and HPs, Acer seemed more of an "off-brand" to me. With that in mind, I wasn't expecting a complete lot for my money. Fortunately, I was not disappointed, but neither was I entirely incorrect.

Even with the widescreen WXGA display, this machine will not be well suited for watching DVDs. The integrated video controller is only acceptable as well as the monitor demands plenty of "fiddling" with to be able to come across the "just right" position for viewing. Furthermore, the glare on the display of this unit is terrible. I've discovered that in most brightly lit rooms I'm spending a lot more time straining my eyes to see past my very own reflection. As usual, the quality and performance is sub-par with these controllers, but for my needs, they do the job. However, if you plan on listening to any audio playback on this machine, you had far better pack a quality set of headphones. The tiny speakers on this machine are terrible sounding. Once again, no big surprise.
Now, about battery life. I do not know who was in charge of defining this aspect of this machine, but they want a checkup from the neck up. Battery performance on this machine is completely unacceptable. Unless you tune the method down significantly, it truly is quite tricky to squeeze a lot more than an hour of genuine usable time out of this system's battery life. The manufacturer states that it'll run for 1.five hours on the battery. I've by no means been in a position to get more than an hour out of the unit. In this day and age, this just isn't acceptable. My only other significant complaint is the lack of expandability of this system. Here's a bit of a head-scratcher: Acer has said it will stand by its man,
which in this case is the netbook, but CEO J.T. Wang also recently told _Dow
Jones_ that his company will stop making "cheap and unprofitable products."
So, which is it? Will the manufacturer keep churning out the low cost (and
even lower specced) machines that it managed to sell 1.7 million of last
quarter? Or will it stop "[blindly] pursuing market share" with affordable,
but poorly made crap? Wang specifically said that Ultrabooks would become the
company's "key growth driver next year" and hopefully return Acer to
profitability. If that fails, we're sure there's plenty of room for some of
its pastel wares over at the Home Shopping Network.
Acer will stop making cheap crap, but keep selling netbooks. Discuss.
