When To Roll Back A Device Driver?
This article will talk about the benefits of the feature to Roll-Back a device driver. Before we touch on that, let us provide some background information to show why this feature may become very handy.
Device drivers are just small programs, but they are very vital in making sure that hardware devices initiate their connection on a computer. It’s is very important to update device drivers for PC hardware devices and it has also been recommended by their manufacturers to use the latest updated device drivers. This would make sure that your device drivers are equipped with the latest updates/features, and bugs present in previous versions are fixed
You can update an existing device driver or download a driver and install it on your computer, but there are potential troubles and dangers that PC users may encounter during these processes. There are cases when during the process of updating a device driver, a PC user may end up installing wrong or an incompatible device driver. This will result in your hardware device being marked as a problematic device or an unknown device in the Device Manager of your computer, and it would malfunction or it would become completely useless.
For the above case, the function to roll back or revert to the previous working driver is very helpful. This function will help you to recover the previous state of your device driver and re-enable the functions of your hardware.
Follow the following steps to perform the option to roll back a device driver.
a. Open your Device Manager
b. Right click the "problematic hardware device"
c. Click Properties
d. Select "Driver" tab
e. Click "Roll Back Driver" button
In case that the Roll Back button is not accessible, this means that Windows does not have a previous device driver to roll back. This would possibly mean that you have to undergo unknown device driver download (.exe or .zip) process.
f. Click "Yes" button
g. Click "Yes" button if prompted to reboot your PC
Take note that the Driver Roll Back function will allow you to roll back to the previous working driver once. The reason is that Windows does not keep archives of all the old drivers of your hardware device.
Also, the Device Driver Roll Back function is helpful when a successful driver update doesn’t fix the current issue, or the update causes a new problem.
So, next time you run into a problem with the updated driver, remember that the Roll Back driver button may provide some relief!
