Review Of The HP 2008 KP080UT 120 Watt Docking Station
As an HP or Compaq laptop owner, you have to know the advantages of having a docking station for your everyday computing wants. And with the HP 2008 KP080UT 120W Docking Station, I can say that every single want of a pc user is perfectly supplied. But let's take a closer look into it and discover if what I'm saying is supported by the actual features of the item.
Design
The KP080UT can be a conventional rear-type dock that's attached to the rear or the laptop. It is easy to use along with the design is really straightforward. This kind of dock is good specially for those that use notebook stands, because the design of genuine HP notebook stands supports the dock, making it a entirely comfortable system of laptop appendages that produce optimal desktop functionality.
The color of the model is silver, as like a lot of other models of HP docking stations. Its dimensions are 6" x 11" x 2.40" so it is effortless sufficient to fit in most bags, though it's fairly bulky. But having a weight of 2.2 pounds or a kilo, it is absolutely effortless to bring along specially in the event you travel for work or you use your laptop for all of your computing, regardless of whether it's within the office or at property.
Ports and Connectivity Possibilities
When it comes to connectivity, this model replicates all the required ports in a conventional CPU. It has a lock designed especially to attach to a monitor stand which makes it less complicated to dock the laptop on a monitor stand. Naturally, whenever you dock it on one, you've got to use a separate mouse and keyboard to maximize your computing comfort. You don't need to worry about that because the dock also has two ports exactly for these two hardware devices.
Other vital ports are also present in this dock such as audio in for microphone, audio out for headphones, modem port, network port, four USB 2.0 ports, along with a DC inlet for the dock's own power source.
The other ports are for peripherals and audiovisual equipment connectivity which include a serial along with a parallel port for connecting old printer models, dial-up modems, and mostly old models of gadgets like digital cameras, joysticks, and scanners.
It also has a VGA port for an extra monitor where you are able to split up your work from the laptop screen to the monitor. You can use it with a friend to work quicker on a project, or you are able to use it by yourself to extend the pages of the work you're doing.
The DVI port quickly gives access to projectors, LCD monitors, and other visual equipment, so you are able to have a PowerPoint presentation utilizing your laptop without thinking of the best way to connect the LCD projector to your PC. You also get the privilege of viewing better, specifically when you watch movies on the laptop and it only has a 10.1'' screen.
Compatibility
The HP 2008 KP080UT dock is compatible with HP Compaq 6510b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6515b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6530b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6535b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6710b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6715b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6720t Mobile Thin Client, HP Compaq 6730b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6735b Notebook PC, HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC, HP Compaq 8510p Notebook PC, HP Compaq 8510w Mobile Workstation, HP Compaq 8710p Notebook PC, HP Compaq 8710w Mobile Workstation, HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook PC, HP EliteBook 8530p Notebook PC, and HP EliteBook 8530w Mobile Workstation.

This dock has a Kensington security lock that makes it more efficient for personal use, as you cannot use the device without making use of the special key to unlock it. You'll be able to stop others from using your dock and secure the safety and very good condition of the device.
Conclusion
As plain and simple as it's, the HP 2008 KP080UT 120W Docking Station is as much functional and complete. You will not have to worry about connectivity as lengthy as you've got this device, especially if you are working with old peripherals that will need old ports and connectors to operate. As for me, I am confident to say that I highly suggest this model to anyone who uses a compatible laptop with this device. I did, and I'm perfectly satisfied with it.
Can you help me with purchasing a widescreen monitor for my laptop?
I'm looking for some help on purchasing a widescreen monitor to use with my laptop docking station. I'd like to get a 22" widescreen LCD (which typically has a 1680 x 1050 native resolution), and I'm wondering if my laptop will be able to support that resolution or produce a good sharp image. I don't want to get a widescreen and just end up with a distorted/stretched image. I have a Thinkpad T60 (Windows XP) with an ATI Radeon Mobility 1300 video card. Any advice/info from someone who's done something similar would be appreciated!!!!
Thanks!
Hiya J J,
Th Radeon is more than capable of displaying the resolution required for a decent 22in LCD wide-screen. ATI doesn't actually list the screen resolutions, but after reading the specs I can see that it will do the trick. In fact, that card will display 2 at different screen resolutions which is unique for a portable.
Here are the specifications for your Radeon Mobility:http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonx1300/specs.html
I just recently bit the bullet and made the changeover from dual 17in CRTs to dual 19in LCD wide-screens. I hated it for a week, then I flush mounted them side-by-side to the wall directly in front of my desk. The amount of space saving and heat reduction is very noticeable and now I have this really large desktop using no desktop space. when watching movies, the CRT mottoes still look smoother, but it won't be long before there is no difference. Prices for LCD display products has recently dropped dramatically indicating a new technology standard about to emerge. i would purchase something nice but not how and wait to see what the new hot Christmas shopping toy will be.
Here are links to a couple of nice 22in LCDs at reasonable prices from reliable vendors.
