Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 - A Fantastic Budget Laptop With The Best Rate
The Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 is an effective budget laptop that is quite capable of handling routine day-to-day use. We purchased it all from Amazon. com on sale designed for $379, about $100 off the variety price. I am an IT student and was short of a new laptop that I could use regularly, both at home and school. The reviews that are positive in Amazon are what convinced me to invest in it.
When closed, the top (back of the display) has a nice carbon-fiber-look insure. When open, the display bezel is shiny dark-colored plastic that tends to reflect numerous light. The keyboard bezel is intended to look like brushed aluminum or chrome steel. The texture even lends to the appearance.
The AMD V120 (2. 2 GHz, 64-bit, single-core) processor runs at only 25W and the cooling fan makes hardly any noise. This is a relatively cool and quiet running computer. Even to be a single-core, the processor is quite in a position for day-to-day use.
It came by means of 3 GB of SDRAM, which is enough for most purposes, but does not lend to overwhelming performance. The chipset allows for an estimated 8 GB of 1066 MHz SDRAM by installing a pair of 4 GB SODIMMs. With 3 GB of SDRAM, the SODIMMs were mismatched - one 1 GB anyone 2 GB, running at different connections.
The processor and RAM combination let me run several virtual machines at a period of time using MS Virtual PC 2007 during my course curriculum, but overall performance is affected by means of sharing the RAM between what are essentially three to four computers at a time. Because of the, I found it necessary to up grade to 4 GB of SDRAM - two matched 2 GB SODIMMs running located at 1066 MHz.
The Acer Aspire AS5251 HIGH-DEFINITION LED screen is large and clean with good color quality and taking a look at angles. It does not make any laptop so large or heavy (5. 75 lbs) that it must be inconvenient to carry around in an important backpack. The smooth, shiny surface does usually reflect some light, however.
Graphics are handled well because of the on-board ATI Radeon(tm) HD 4250 Layouts with 256 MB of dedicated process memory, and can share up to 1405 MB of system RAM. This allows for maximum resolution of 1366 by 768. The graphics and screen are relatively capable for most games, as well as viewing Digital video disc and streaming video.
The SATA 250 GB disc drive is sufficient for most uses, but might be insufficient for users with large MP3 libraries or loads of installed games and applications. Due to help space requirements, I use and additional HDD for my virtual machines regarding school.
The inclusion of a number pad to the keyboard is a nice convenience, but it causes the rest of the keyboard to be somewhat off-center. This requires a little getting used to, but is actually a minor inconvenience. There is even a flush-mounted multi-touch touchpad.
The laptop seems to have three USB 2. 0 ports, one in the left, and two on the ideal. It would probably have been more comfortable to have them situated on the back. However, since this is a slim laptop, the location of the battery does not allow for any kind of ports to be located on the trunk.
Also included are HDMI and VGA video ports, a built-in webcam, Gigabit Ethernet vent, microphone and headphone jacks, and multi-card readers (on the front).
Wi-Fi is that will work with 802. 11b, g and n specifications.
No Bluetooth is included on that model, although it may possible to put in yourself, if you wish, as the motherboard does are capable for a Bluetooth card.
The multi-layer DVD-Super Multi-ply DL drive is fast, but to some degree noisy when burning CDs or Cds.
Overall, this Acer is a good, in a position budget laptop.
